Where to download the free demo
The demo is free on all five storefronts. Every listing below was visible on August 29, 2026, and none of them charges for the download. Store availability is confirmed per region rather than worldwide, so treat your local storefront as the final authority if a listing does not appear.
PlayStation 5
PlayStation Store carries a dedicated demo product page for Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Open your regional PS Store, search for the demo listing, and add it to your library at no cost. Store content can differ between regions, so your local storefront is the final word on availability.

The Xbox Store lists “Onimusha: Way of the Sword Demo” as its own free entry. Search the store on your console or on xbox.com, open the demo page, and select the install option. As with every storefront, availability is confirmed per region.

Nintendo’s store lists the game for Switch 2 with demo access. Open Nintendo eShop on your console, search for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, and look for the free demo entry. Nintendo lists store content per region, so check your account’s eShop.

Steam hosts the demo as “Onimusha: Way of the Sword DEMO” with its own download action, and the demo entry can also be reached from the main game page. When checked on August 29, 2026, the page displayed a “Download” button and an “The demo has been expanded!” news item dated August 26, 2026.

The Epic Games Store carries a demo product page for the game. Search the Epic launcher or the web store, open the demo listing, and claim or install it for free. Epic storefronts are regional, so confirm the listing is visible in your account region.

The initial June version of the demo let players explore an early section set around Kiyomizu-dera and fight Sasaki Ganryu. PlayStation’s launch coverage for the demo named the core systems it teaches: Parry, Deflect, Issen, Oni Armament, and soul absorption with the Oni Gauntlet.
That initial version was described as roughly 30 minutes long. That figure applies to the June build only — the August update added content, and no updated total length has been published (see the length section below).

The August 2026 update, as confirmed
On August 25, 2026, PlayStation Blog published an interview and update roundup confirming that the demo had been expanded: the explorable area grew and Daidara was added as a new encounter. Steam followed with an “The demo has been expanded!” news post on August 26, 2026.
Those two points are the whole of what official channels state about the update. No expanded-area name, no complete feature list, and no updated playtime figure have been published in the material this site verified, so this guide does not invent them.
Demo save data and the Kubi Akari charm
Demo progress does not transfer into the full game. Store information states instead that players who have demo save data can receive Charm: Kubi Akari in Onimusha: Way of the Sword when it launches on September 4, 2026.
One condition remains unconfirmed: none of the listings this site checked states whether you must complete the demo to earn the charm. Keep your save data either way.
Is there a secret boss in the demo?
Search interest in a “demo secret boss” is high, so here is the honest answer: no official source checked on August 29, 2026 — the Steam page, the PlayStation demo listing, or Capcom’s announcements — confirms that a secret boss exists. The only officially confirmed new challenge is Daidara, added in the August 25 update.
