How Long Is Onimusha: Way of the Sword?

The launch demo covered about 30 minutes of early story, and the director estimated a first playthrough of the full game at around 20 hours — an estimate, not a guarantee.

Only two playtime numbers exist in the official record, and both come with dates attached: the demo’s launch-build length from the producer’s own blog post, and the director’s development-stage estimate for the full game. This page presents both with their sources and refuses to invent a total for anything else.

The numbers, in short

Demo (June 2026 launch build) ~30 minutes Official description of the early-story slice, per the producer’s PlayStation Blog post.
Full game, first playthrough ~20 hours Director Satoru Nihei’s estimate from a TGS 2025 interview, given before launch.
Expanded demo (Aug 2026) & final full-game length Not published No official figure exists for either. Anything precise you see elsewhere is a guess.

How long is the demo?

When the demo launched on June 2, 2026, producer Akihito Kadowaki described it on PlayStation Blog as “about 30 minutes of the early story.” That slice covered the first stages of Musashi’s path, the Kiyomizu-dera Temple stage, the Sasaki Ganryu battle, and the game’s core techniques — Parry, Deflect, Issen, Oni Armament, and soul absorption.

That 30-minute figure belongs to the June build. On August 25, 2026, an update expanded the demo’s explorable area and added the Daidara boss fight, and no updated playtime figure has been published since. The expanded demo therefore takes somewhat longer than 30 minutes by definition — but how much longer is not stated in any official source this site verified.

Pending — not yet confirmed

Expanded demo length: not published

Official channels have not published a playtime figure for the post-August demo. This card will be replaced with a sourced number if one appears.

How long is the full game?

The only full-game figure in the official record is the director’s estimate. Asked about expected play time in a TGS 2025 interview published by Denfaminicogamer, director Satoru Nihei said a first playthrough would likely take around 20 hours (“初見プレイの場合は20時間ぐらい掛かるだろうなと思います”).

Two honest qualifiers attach to that number. It was given during development, more than a year before launch, so it was an estimate rather than a measured figure. And it covers a first playthrough only — completionists poking into every system should expect their own clock to run longer, though no official source quantifies by how much.

Replay value and side content

In the same TGS 2025 interview, the developers said they were considering side-mission-like content and rematches against defeated bosses — replay-oriented features that were under consideration at the time, not a confirmed feature list. Since launch is September 4, 2026 and the final feature set ships with the game, treat any specific side-content claim as unverified until the game itself (or a post-launch official breakdown) confirms it.

Reading playtime numbers correctly

Playtime figures are the most commonly exaggerated stat in pre-release coverage, so a quick reading guide: the two numbers on this page are the only ones with named sources, and each carries a scope. “About 30 minutes” describes a demo build from June, before the August expansion. “Around 20 hours” is one developer’s launch-minus-a-year estimate for one playthrough. Neither is a guarantee, neither covers post-expansion or completionist play, and no aggregate or 100% figure exists in official material at all.

If you see a confident hour count for the expanded demo or the full game elsewhere, it is an estimate dressed up as data — this page will only add numbers that trace to a dated, named source.
