This page tracks only what CAPCOM and the official storefronts confirm about the launch: the release date itself, where the game appears on day one, what is still unknown about unlock timing, and how pre-order works. Nothing here borrows from rumor.

The confirmed release date: September 4, 2026

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is scheduled to launch worldwide on September 4, 2026. The date comes from CAPCOM’s July 2, 2026 announcement, which moved the game’s release up from the previously planned September 25, 2026. The official Steam listing shows the same September 4 date, so the two first-party sources agree.

Because release plans can change, this page records when each detail was checked: the date and platform list were verified against CAPCOM’s announcement and the Steam listing, with the storefront status last re-checked in early September 2026.

Launch status

As of September 3, 2026, the game has not yet unlocked on any platform — launch day is September 4, 2026. Pre-purchase listings were live on Steam as of August 29, 2026, and platform holders had been advertising pre-orders since June. This section will be updated once launch-day status can be verified on each storefront.

Post-launch status update

Once the game is live, this slot will carry a verified launch confirmation per platform. Until then, September 4, 2026 remains the officially announced date.

Status checked September 3, 2026 against CAPCOM’s announcement and storefront listings.

Launch platforms

CAPCOM’s announcement names four launch platforms. Each platform’s day-one availability is a first-party statement rather than a storefront rumor, but store visibility is still confirmed per region, so your local storefront is the final word.

PlayStation 5

CAPCOM’s July 2, 2026 announcement names PlayStation 5 among the launch platforms, and PlayStation Blog’s August 25, 2026 post reiterates “Launching September 4” for PS5.

Xbox Series X|S

The same CAPCOM announcement lists Xbox Series X|S as a first-day platform. Xbox Wire’s June 2026 developer interview covered the Xbox listing and pre-orders.

Nintendo Switch 2

Nintendo Switch 2 is part of the announced launch line-up, and Nintendo’s own store page carries the game ahead of release.

PC (Steam and Epic Games Store)

PC is announced as a launch platform. Steam carries both the full game and the free demo, and the Epic Games Store lists the demo — storefront specifics are confirmed per region.

Unlock times per platform

One question this page cannot answer yet: the exact hour the game unlocks in each region on each platform. As of September 3, 2026, no official CAPCOM or storefront page checked for this guide states a specific unlock time or timezone schedule. Store pages sometimes display a local countdown in the final days, and that remains the most reliable place to look for your own region.

Any specific “midnight unlock” claim you see elsewhere is an assumption, not a published schedule. When official unlock times appear, this section will list them with sources.

Unlock times: not officially published

No official source states per-platform unlock hours or timezone details. This card will be replaced with a sourced schedule once one is published.

Checked September 3, 2026; CAPCOM’s site and storefront pages showed no unlock-time schedule.

Pre-order and pre-order bonuses

On Steam, the game has been available for pre-purchase in three digital options: the Base Game, the Deluxe Edition, and the Premium Deluxe Edition. The listing states that pre-ordering includes a bonus set with two items: Charm: Lion Dog and the Sealed Curse sword appearance. Xbox Wire’s June 2026 coverage likewise described pre-order charms and sword appearances tied to each edition.

Two boundaries matter. First, store content varies by region and can change, so the relevant storefront is the final authority on availability and pricing where you live. Second, the Steam listing itself notes that “pre-order bonuses may be made available after launch” — meaning the bonus items can be delivered to your game after release day.

The full edition-by-edition comparison, including what each digital edition contains and current US pricing, lives on the editions page.

Why the date moved up

The launch date was not always September 4. CAPCOM’s earlier announcements had planned September 25, 2026, and coverage as late as early June still used that date. The July 2, 2026 announcement moved the worldwide release forward by three weeks. Older articles and store screenshots may still show September 25 — that is the historical date, not the current one.

Watch the launch-window trailer

The sixth official trailer shows the game’s later challenges, new enemies, and Musashi’s Oni Awakening — a good final look before launch day. It is embedded here on demand, so nothing loads from YouTube until you select play.
